Professor Profile

"There can be no words without images."

I am an assistant professor in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Iowa State University. I have led this course several times at ISU and I taught a similar course at Indiana University where I recently completed a Ph.D. with emphases in Political and International Communication.

In the past several years, I have had my research accepted and published at The International Communication Gazette, Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media, Journalism and Mass Communication Educator, Social Science Computer Review, and Media, War & Conflict. In addition, I also have presented numerous papers and served on several panels at ICA, AEJMC, and ISA.

Prior to coming to Iowa State University, I spent a majority of my time and money traveling to over 30 countries on five continents for extended periods. During and before that time, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Technology Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout and spent a gap semester at the University College of London. Later, I went on to earn a Master’s degree from Marquette University and a Ph.D. from Indiana University, both in Mass Communication.

Professionally, I have experience as an editor and graphic designer at an independent publishing house in Denver, Colorado. There, I primarily created business to business presentations using various media formats. During my undergraduate years, I was an editor at The Stoutonia, a weekly collegiate newspaper where I developed my interest in mass communication and its (presumed and actual) effects.

In addition, I provide English editing of scientific manuscripts for researchers around the globe through American Journal Experts.
